Around the world - Yoga for senior HU

Yoga is a lifelong practice that transforms health and consciousness. After decades of work and teaching, a profound emptiness emerged upon retirement. An introduction to yoga provided a new path. Attending a class and later a camp led to a pivotal meeting with a teacher and receiving a mantra. The practice integrates physical exercise with breath to process stress and cultivate calmness. Regular attendance, workshops, and a vegetarian diet resolved past illnesses and high cholesterol. Daily practice is now essential, beginning each morning with an hour of breathwork, meditation, and mantra.

"The exercises, harmonized with breathing, bring calmness, so whenever I face any difficulty, I just sit down, meditate, or relax, and my state of mind immediately improves."

"All of these improved through the rīkṣa ḍhākoras, through regular ḍhākora practice, my health was restored, and I felt better."

Thank you for watching. He recently passed his 78th year. That is quite an age, and thank God, he is in good strength and health. Tell us a little about yourself. What I can say is that in the past I used to do a lot of sports, worked a lot, and for 30 years I was involved with children, teaching them. When I stopped doing this, I felt very bad. My troubles surfaced, something was missing, and then I thought that I should do something different as well. I met an acquaintance who drew my attention to yoga. I was already at the next yoga class; fortunately, there is one in our town. Then, the following year, in my twenties, I attended a yoga camp where I met Svāmījī. He had a great impact on me. I felt very comfortable there. In the next āyāma, in 1993, at Vép, I received a mantra from Svāmījī and became his disciple. How did your lifestyle and daily routine change when you encountered yoga? It helps to process stress, I have become calmer, and my thinking has become more positive. The exercises, harmonized with breathing, bring calmness, so whenever I face any difficulty, I just sit down, meditate, or relax, and my state of mind immediately improves, I feel better. Since I received the mantra, I have been regularly attending, practicing, going to yoga workshops, satsaṅgs, and I adhered to the vegetarian diet, which helps a lot, because in earlier times I had many problems, I was ill, I had spinal issues, joint inflammations, my cholesterol levels were high. All of these improved through the rīkṣa ḍhākoras, through regular ḍhākora practice, my health was restored, and I felt better. Have you ever surrendered a day of your life? I am now over 78 years old, I am also beginning to age, and the practice is much more difficult, but I still practice every day. In the morning, I cannot rise without practicing. My whole day is much better then. I practice breathing exercises, I meditate. And I am currently practicing for about an hour as well. That is very good, in the way they are used. I practice meditation, mantra chanting, and breathing exercises. What is your favorite āsana practice? There are many practices I like, especially the katuprāṇam practice, which I really enjoy doing because it always moves everything through, and afterwards my overall well-being is much better. Thank you for your attention. Let your thought be positive. The beauty of yoga is that it requires no tools. A person sits quietly on a carpet in a silent room and can perform the practices there. You can relax, you can meditate, you can unwind. Half an hour, an hour is enough for a person to unwind and become calmer.
