We should unite with the Supreme
The individual seeks union with the cosmic.
A drop of water is held, looking at the vast ocean. The drop wishes to return to its source, the ocean. Until it falls, the drop appears separate. Upon merging, no separation remains. In the same way, individuals see themselves as separate on this earth. Yet the goal is to become one with the cosmic, so there is no return. This body and all possessions will one day cease. The path is walked alone, each following a unique direction. One bird sitting with others will fly its own way. Which direction it takes is unknown. Mothers, fathers, friends, spouses—all are temporary companions. Even physical forms of the divine will dissolve into the ātmā. The drop returns to the ocean and becomes one.
“A drop of water, you have water in, and there will be over the ocean one, no, no... boat. And we are on the ocean. And we have one drop in our hand... Until it falls into the water of the ocean, and then you don’t know who is who.”
“All of you are sitting like one bird sitting on the roof of the house. And these four or five birds, we don’t know, they will fly... One bird flies that side, and one flies the other side.”
