Practising yoga strengthens the immune system

A satsang on yoga's role in health and global community, featuring Swami Maheshvarananda and the Indian Ambassador to the Czech Republic.

"Mostly, myself, I can tell you that I am out of the countries, from India. So, all these yogīs in their lives around the whole world were practicing very peacefully and very well, healthy."

"Swamiji has rightly pointed out that during the COVID times, yoga has really helped us in developing our immune system. And I’m glad that people who are practicing this form of yoga have remained safe and healthy despite the pandemic."

Swami Maheshvarananda opens the gathering, discussing the health of the global Yoga in Daily Life community during the pandemic and comparing yoga practice in India and abroad. The Indian Ambassador then speaks, thanking the organization and highlighting yoga's resurgence in India and their collaborative embassy classes, concluding with an invitation to celebrate India's Republic Day.

All blessings to all our sisters and brothers. Today is a very beautiful day. Ārādhe Bhagavān Śrī Alak Purījī, Devpurījī, Mahāprabhujī, and our holy Gurujī. Our Ambassador, His Excellency from India, is here with us today. We have immense joy that His Excellency and his two companions are with us. We know that for nearly two years, the whole world has been suffering from a disease. We thought it was only a one-time problem, but this kind of problem is coming again and again. Our Yoga in Daily Life community around the world has been practicing, and you can see that mostly they had no disease here. But there were old people and those who had diseases like cancer and so on, and they had to go to the doctors. We know that many people are coming. There is a difference, and so this disease has also been caught by other people. Those who were saying, "I have no disease, and I’m okay, I don’t need my mask," it is like this. Many people did not use that, and so the disease came again to serve people like this. Otherwise, we were very healthy. Mostly, myself, I can tell you that I am out of the countries, from India. So, all these yogīs in their lives around the whole world were practicing very peacefully and very well, healthy. Every day they were practicing, and they were healthy everywhere. You can go to these yogīs. But I’m sorry to say, in India, I don’t know so much. Indians were practicing yoga. Now we are very happy with our government in India, Modījī. He gave this yoga, and Modījī has given it to the whole world. Now they are coming more to practice yoga, and they are also getting very healthy. But still in India, they are practicing yoga, but not that properly as it has to be done. They are only making the exercises, and sometimes they don’t practice. Because I go to India a few times every year, and they do not practice. But there are many. India is a very big, very, very big country, so there are very great yoga centers, and they are practicing very well. They are not doing poorly; they are doing very well, great. But I can say more yoga is practiced outside of India. And many have given up meat, alcohol, etc. When the disease came, many people tried to give up meat and other things. In America, many, many people give up meat and alcohol and these old things. And in Europe, many, many people. Now, I will not say only Yoga in Daily Life; people are doing exercise, but there are many, many yoga teachers, there are many, many years, there are gurus over there practicing, and they are very good and very clean, and they also have no disease. And many people are going to give the real yoga exercises and what to do for their gurus. For long years, many, many yoga centers outside are now giving to other people in India, that we should practice in this kind of techniques. But of course, we had many, many yoga centers in India, and it is yogīs who have given this. And yogīs all sit there—not only sādhus, but all people are practicing. That is a yoga that... not only that one is sitting as a sādhu and doing nothing. No. We are giving to the whole world, to all peoples, to everyone. And now people are practicing every day, very much. And so, the Indian government and all, they are also bringing the yogīs again, and yogīs are doing, and I will not tell too much. Today is my Excellency’s satsaṅg with me. I came, I am listening to him from me, so I will give to His Excellency. Please give something, words. And he is also a yoga teacher, you know? Yes. Ambassador: Good evening, everyone. It’s my proud privilege to be part of this satsaṅg organized by Yoga in Daily Life under Swāmī Māheśvarānandajī. Thanks to Swamiji, yoga has been very popular in this country, in the Czech Republic, for the last 50 years. In fact, Swāmījī, along with his followers, has set up so many yoga centers, not only in the Czech Republic, but in different parts of the world. Swamiji has rightly pointed out that during the COVID times, yoga has really helped us in developing our immune system. And I’m glad that people who are practicing this form of yoga have remained safe and healthy despite the pandemic. In fact, India has given this knowledge of yoga to the world, but unfortunately, people forgot about yoga over the last several decades. It’s only during the last few years, and especially after the efforts made by Prime Minister Modi, that yoga is again getting popular in India. And that is the reason why on the 21st of June we are celebrating International Yoga Day. The idea is to popularize this knowledge of yoga to the entire world. We at the Embassy of India in Prague are working with Yoga in Daily Life, and we have started regular weekly classes in our embassy. Naša ambasáda indická v Čechách spolupracuje s jogou v dennom živote a začali jsme týždenné kurzy. And thank you, Yoga in Daily Life, for working with us. And it is on this occasion that I thought that I must come to Střekov and be with all of you. In fact, tomorrow we have a function to celebrate the Republic Day of India, which is on January 26th, and we are commencing the celebration from Sitārā. And this is a special year for India because this is the 75th anniversary of India’s independence. And we look forward to working with Yoga in Daily Life for grand celebrations throughout the year. We are looking forward to working with yoga during the rest of the year. And thank you so much. Thank you. Good night. Swāmījī: So thank you very much, Your Excellency. You have given us very good thoughts and work, and we are very happy that you are here in our ashram. And it is that the whole ashram is Mahāprabhujī’s deep ashram. And you know, Your Excellency, that many thousands and thousands of miles of people have come through here, and every time they are coming. And now many other countries are coming from America, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji. They all come here to this Czech government. And Your Excellency, we are very happy and respectful that you are coming here, and tomorrow we will have our Indian Republic Day. We will be able to celebrate the independence of India together.
