King Manu

A spiritual discourse on the burning desire to see the formless God.

"How is it that He takes form just to show us? He is the formless, He is the endless, and He is everlasting."

"We want to see Him with these physical eyes... We will only do sādhanā and sādhanā and something so that He has to come. We will not give up! God has to give up!"

The speaker contemplates the profound paradox of seeking a vision of the formless, endless Divine with physical eyes. Exploring the limitations of human perception and the long path to true knowledge (tattvajñāna), the discourse centers on an unwavering, burning desire that compels relentless spiritual practice (sādhanā) until God is revealed, referencing Vedic teachings and the manifestation of deities from the One.

Day by day, the desire grew in their hearts to see God. When and how can we see the saguṇa form of that nirguṇa God with our own physical eyes? He is nirguṇa, formless. How is it that He takes form just to show us? He is the formless, He is the endless, and He is everlasting. Only the pure souls and the Brahmajñānīs who know the Supreme One meditate on Him. Brahmajñānī tattveta—those who know the tattva of the Supreme One. But our eyes are not satisfied. He is endless, everlasting, and formless. Now, what should we do with this? How to begin with something? We can't even touch Him, we can't smell, we can't hear, we can't see; for us, it's nothing. Endless, everlasting, and formless, but for us, it's nothing. We want to see, but we cannot see because we are not tattvajñānī. And to get this tattvajñāna, to get the knowledge, is a long, long time. Tattvadarśī Gurudevika Anubhava Paramparā. Mahāprabhujī said, "Those who have the knowledge of this tattva, their experience is limitless also." But we want to see Him with these physical eyes. It doesn't matter what happens. We will only do sādhanā and sādhanā and something so that He has to come. We will not give up! God has to give up! What does He think? That was their intention. That was the burning desire in their heart. The Vedas and Neti, all are telling this: "This is not, this is not, that is not, and this is not." Who is without form, blissful, above everything, beautiful, but without form? By Him, or through Him, or from Him, man, Śiva, Brahmā, and Viṣṇu were created, or were born, or manifested. And through Him, numerous Brahmā, Viṣṇu, and Śiva manifested themselves. Many manifested themselves through Him. Who is that One? Him we want to see. --- Recording location: Hungary, Vep, Summer seminar
