Hard times in life

A spiritual discourse addressing despair and the sacred duty to preserve life.

"God has given this life. This life is very holy. This is a very secret life, a divine life. And we shall do our best to save our life, to protect our life."

"And lucky are they who realize their karmic dharma. And wait, it will come. The fulfillment, fulfillment."

The speaker offers guidance for moments of deep loneliness and destructive thoughts, including considering one's life a burden. He emphasizes that life is a holy gift from God that must be protected, advising listeners not to depend on others' opinions or be crushed by past mistakes done in ignorance. The path through such darkness is to accept one's circumstances and karmic duties (dharma), supported by prayer, mantra, and the spiritual Master, ultimately seeking divine presence above all else.

In human life, certain times arrive when situations and circumstances arise, and one feels somehow lost and lonely. One thinks that there is nobody here who loves me, that no one likes me—which is not true. Your friends, your parents, your acquaintances, your colleagues, they love you more than you love them. If there is a little fighting or some arguments, that belongs to human society. What harms us is our own thinking. When we think in that way, those are very destructive thoughts. And the most destructive thoughts are when one thinks about one's own life as a burden—a burden to themselves or a burden for others. When one thinks like that, at that time darkness appears in the consciousness of the person. And the person thinks, there is nothing here for me. And then, unfortunately, some thoughts come, like to pass away, to go away from this world. One can never run away from problems. Problems will follow you wherever you are. Karmas will follow you wherever you go. God has given this life. This life is very holy. This is a very secret life, a divine life. And we shall do our best to save our life, to protect our life. Even if you have made a big mistake, now you think, "My God, what will people say?" Does your life depend on someone's saying? If someone tells me something or writes something bad about me, will I decide to die? No. It means that I am not able to digest my life situation. If I am not capable of that, it means I am not capable of digesting my life circumstances. My ego is too strong, so I cannot face my humiliation. Do not depend on others' commentary. Whatever you have done, you did it out of ignorance, out of your weakness, out of uncontrolled feelings, or some influences. But it does not mean that you are so sad now and you say, "I don't want to live anymore." So one should take life, the life given by God, as very holy. In medicine, the doctor is taught that doctors should do their best to save life. It doesn't matter who is who. When you go for treatment to a doctor, the doctor will never think that you are of this religion or that religion, or you are a white person or a black person, or you are Asian, or you are African, or you are Chinese. No, it does not matter if your body is dirty or your body is clean or not. The doctor has his or her dharma to help the person become free of pain and to do their best to give treatment or an operation to save the life. Even if you were not nice to the doctor, maybe you are like an enemy to him. But in the treatment, the doctor will not make dualities. Similarly, whatever happened through your being here in this world, accept it. And do not die because of this. Do not suffer because of this. But when you remember those karmas, then you are scared about it. If there are some karmas worse like this, for that we have prayer. We have mantra. We have our spiritual path. We have our Master. And therefore it is said in one bhajan, "O Master, I came to Thee. Please remove my sorrows." How does a Master remove the sorrows? Sorrows are not a material thing. Pain is not a material thing; you can't see it, you can't touch it, but it is there. And it's our mind which gives us happiness. Of course, nothing is forever lasting. It's very hard for us to understand the cosmic law. We don't understand the cosmic law, and we don't understand the karmic law. The karmic relation, and if we escape from these karmic relations, then it means we don't follow our dharma. And when you don't follow the dharma, you create negative karma again. So try to understand, change thinking, accept it whatever happens, and through what you have to go, like this bhajan: Lord, the real happiness is found in your presence. For that, even I have to go through fire, walk on the thorns. Even I have to leave the country. Even death becomes the garland of my neck. But Lord, let me be with you. I am Thine. I am Thine. And lucky are they who realize their karmic dharma. And wait, it will come. The fulfillment, fulfillment. --- Recording location: Slovenia, Ljubljana, Satsang
