Wishes, part 2

A spiritual discourse on the nature of wishes and mental power.

"Lord, make me free from all wishes. 'Wunschlos zufrieden sein'—to be content without wishes—that is the important thing."

"Your wishes should be positive. Take care that through your wish you don't hurt someone. You don't harm someone."

The speaker addresses the paradox of ambition, first advocating for a state of wishless contentment as the highest ideal. He then provides a practical technique for sending positive, harmless wishes, using the example of wishing for a daughter's good health. He explains the dynamic between the self, the object of the wish, and the wish itself, emphasizing that mental power transcends physical distance.

Ambition is our problem. The human mind is a powerful force. Whatever you wish for and whatever you decide will happen. Each and every thought, sooner or later, will come true. Even if you are afraid, and out of fear you are thinking something, that can happen to you at any time. Therefore, it is said, "Lord, make me free from all wishes." "Wunschlos zufrieden sein"—to be content without wishes—that is the important thing. I see some have come from Villach. The most important thing is that we are without wishes and that we are satisfied. That's it. Now, before we wish for something, we should know what we want to do with it. Is it greediness, selfishness, or ego? Which part of your being would like to fulfill it? Greediness is not good. Out of ego is not good. Out of selfishness is also not good. So it is said in yoga: try to purify all your vṛttis. Vṛttis means wishes. This is the best thing. Now, the second point about wishes. Still, because you wish to have your wishes. And this is very—I will tell you now—a theoretical technique. And then we will do the practice following this. First of all, your wishes should be positive. Take care that through your wish you don't hurt someone. You don't harm someone. You don't take away from someone. And that afterward you will not be sorry about this. Yesterday someone said, "I wish for good health for my daughter." So, this is one good wish. It can be your daughter or son, your husband or wife, your grandfather or grandmother. Or anyone. So let's say this is one concrete case, a concrete object. Or you have another wish. You want to attain liberation. That's a very concrete thing. There are some wishes, like you would like to be successful in your company, and so on and so on. Now, there are three things that are very important. The first is yourself. So, everything will happen through yourself. It is you who will do it. It is your power which will make it happen. But you know, it's not so easy. As easy as I am telling you. So, the first is yourself. The second is the object, the aim. So, let's say the object is your daughter, that she is ill. And here you are. The third one is your wish. And this wish goes to her, towards her. You imagine your daughter. Distance doesn't matter. She can be in Australia, and we are here. If we dig a hole here, down is Australia. In Australia, there is one city called Adelaide. And when you just dig to Adelaide, it comes to the Austrian-Slovenian corner. I had one card there, I saw. Anyhow, distance doesn't matter. For mental power, for your willpower, distance doesn't matter at all. It can be on some planet or some star far away. The distance can be covered so quickly that it's just like you think of Jupiter, Mars, and Earth. So you were on all these three planets at once. As quickly as you think, you are already there. So distance doesn't matter. Now you see that person who is suffering, and now you send your thoughts. That is your wish. And that wish, in the form of thoughts, is that she will become healthy.
