Spirits

A spiritual discourse on ghosts, liberation, and spiritual practice.

"Where there are humans, there is colorful māyā, beauty. Where there are trees, there is nice, cool shade."

"The power of the Brahmajñānī is here. So wherever you will go, no ghost will come."

Swami Dev Narayan delivers a satsang, beginning with a Rajasthani saying about human life and shade. He shares a personal story of liberating spirits from a location and explains how ancestral spirits can be freed through prayer and charity. He tells a parable about a black magic master and his Brahmajñānī disciple, whose pure presence liberates ghosts, illustrating the power of spiritual attainment. He concludes by affirming the purifying energy received by the attendees through the Anuṣṭhāna and satsang, encouraging them to maintain their practice.

We say in the Rajasthani dialect: "minkori maya, rukhori saya." "Minkori maya"—where there are humans, there is colorful māyā, beauty. "Rukhori saya"—where there are trees, there is nice, cool shade. Yet when you check, all the trees look sad, and when the people are gone, it's like a ghost castle. We are the living ghosts; at least we say hello, we are visible ghosts. But the invisible ghosts, they are liberated from here because, in the beginning, they were. In every room, you could hear walking and talking at night; you could hear voices. So Pārvatī told me, and I said, "Okay, I will come." I went into every room and told them, "Now you are liberated from this level of your life; go and find your next happy life." So they got mokṣa from this level of consciousness, from this journey. This means life, spirit, devas, angels—they are different. Mostly, those ancestors, those people, are neither in the astral world nor in the physical world. Their spirit is attached somehow to something. They try to make themselves visible but cannot. There are some very sensitive people who may see something. But they can be liberated through prayers and offerings. "Offer" means you give food to the birds, to the animals, or to hungry people. There are many good things to do in their name. When you give a donation in the church, you are not fulfilling an obligation; you are not obliging anyone. You are doing something good for yourself. After the prayer service, many people go to the donation box or pass a basket. It is the same in temples and āshrams. After prayers, they go around with a light. Everyone makes praṇām and puts some coin in. When the light doesn't come to them, they are unhappy, so they come extra and put it in. So there is something to it. Here is a short story. There was one master, a magic master, a black magic master. He used to call spirits. He would go to a place outside the village or in the cemetery and call many, many ghosts. He had one disciple who was a Brahmajñānī. The master told him, "I have siddhis. All these ghosts and all these surrounding areas are under my control. Všichni ty duchové tady okolo, ty já ovládám. Dneska pojď se mnou, já ti to ukážu." (All these ghosts here around, I control them. Today, come with me, I will show you.) So he took his disciple with him. Of course, even though he was a Brahmajñānī, he had to go; the master is always the master. His master went there, made a magic circle, and did whatever they do. He made his prayers and mantras and started calling them. "Františku, come. Josef, come. Ondra, come. Viktor, come." But nobody came. He was there for four hours and grew very angry. He called the female ghosts too, but they also didn't come. So he said, "Well, today maybe they are somewhere; they have some feast somewhere." They went back. The next night, the master said, "I will go alone, and I will punish them all." Again he went there, made a circle, and one ghost came. "Yes, Master." He said, "Where have you been yesterday, and where are all the others?" The ghost said, "I am the unlucky one, and the others are all lucky ones, Master." "What do you mean?" "They were all here yesterday. As soon as they saw your disciple, they were liberated. I was not here, and I am not liberated. Please, can you somehow arrange that I have darśan of your disciple?" The master opened his eyes and said, "Okay, come with me." The ghost followed the master to where the disciple was sitting, doing mantras and thinking of the master. The ghost came within about 500 meters and then finished. He said, "Bye-bye, Master." The master said, "What?" The ghost replied, "I am free from you, and I am already going to the light. Don't you notice, Master? The power of the Brahmajñānī is here." And that was it. So wherever you will go, no ghost will come. You go there, repeat your mantra, say your prayer, keep Mahāprabhujī's photo or picture. I may tell you with great confidence, all negative energies will disappear and be purified. That's it. Because you are pure now. You are that; the ghost from you is free, except for the ghost of ignorance, and ego, and jealousy, and criticizing, and talking badly. Anyhow, that's it. You have received that energy now through this Anuṣṭhāna, Kṛiyā Anuṣṭhāna—not an intensive seminar, but Kṛiyā Anuṣṭhāna—and through the satsaṅgs, Guru Vākyas, through being together, eating this divine sāttvic food, blessed food, breathing this divine air where we are all sitting together. The air touches our body and touches others' bodies, so in the present, you are intoxicated in divine love. And when you go to that city, then you will get some different drips of māyā, and slowly, slowly this vairāgya will diminish. Therefore, repeat again, come again. So, I wish you all the best. Much love, and a happy, safe journey. Dev Nārāyaṇ Bhagavān. Dev Purī Samādhi. Mādhav Kṛṣṇa Bhagavān. Jitara. Jitara. --- Recording location: Czech Republic, Strilky, Summer seminar
