Sat - Cit - Ananda (Part 2)

A spiritual discourse on overcoming mental imperfection to attain divine bliss.

"The man-made world is imperfect, and the God-made world is perfect."

"Therefore, this world is created out of the mind, and the mind is not steady—saṅkalpa and vikalpa. Don't trust your mind, and that's the problem."

Swami Avatarpuri Ji delivers a satsang, contrasting the flawed world created by human greed and mind with the perfection of divine consciousness. He explains how desires and negative emotions imprison individuals, advocating for prayer and transcending the senses to break through to eternal, spotless consciousness (Chidānanda). The talk weaves in teachings from various traditions, including the Sikh Gurū Granth Sāhib and the words of Jesus and Mahātmā Gāndhī, to emphasize universal truths like satya (truth) and ahiṃsā (non-violence).

The man-made world is imperfect, and the God-made world is perfect. What we call sustainability is hindered by human greed. You could produce a car that needs only half a liter of petrol for a hundred or a thousand kilometers. You could even design a car without petrol. But God doesn't want this. Which God? Jesus said, "Don't believe in the wrong God." That is money. All wars around the world are not for creating peace, but for money. To create a war means all your products will be sold. We pray for peace, and they pray for war because they have all these products—weapons. Once I had a disciple who was selling all the things in his shop for funerals. Sometimes nothing was sold because no one died. So I asked, "What do you think about your business?" He said, "Sorry to say, Swāmījī, but every day when I enter my shop, I pray to God that more people should die today so I can sell my things which belong to funerals." So that is it. Therefore, this world is created out of the mind, and the mind is not steady—saṅkalpa and vikalpa. Don't trust your mind, and that's the problem. Otherwise, people who are always changing will never be happy in their life. Therefore, the place is within you. So it is said, live as God wants. Jis halme, jis chalme, Śrī Rām. In whatever condition you are, in whatever situation you are, say the name of God. Whenever you feel anxiety within you, there is no medicine and no one who can help you. Prayer. When you don't see the way out of certain problems or situations in life, prayer will help you find a way. So, if you think of yourself physically—I am tired, I am relaxed, I love, I enjoy—then you are very selfish and greedy. Mahātmā Gāndhī said, "There is enough in this world for everyone's need, but not enough for everyone's greed." So whoever thinks too much—I like this and I don't like this, and I feel comfortable here and I don't feel comfortable there—that is a greedy person. That person is caught by these five Rākṣasas: Kāma, Krodha, Mada, Lobha, and Moha. These five Rākṣasas. You can't move. They observe you day and night. You are imprisoned by them. So, where are those who are free from this? They should become your slaves. They should become your guards, but you should not be their boss. So yoga is not only that you do exercises and breathe in and out and lie down and do nice yoga. "Oh, I'm relaxed, happy. Very nice, was it?" Go in the sauna. Oh, you will be relaxed. But this is something beyond. Satt citta, and that is citta, that consciousness, spotless consciousness, crystal clear consciousness. Nirañjan, without any rañj, without spot. That your consciousness is pure, clean, that we don't have a bad conscience, we don't have bad intention in our conscience. It is that consciousness like the sun; no dirt or dust can reach the sun. So that ātmā, that consciousness, cannot be attacked by any karma. Ānanda is bliss. There are two kinds of ānanda: a temporary joy, happiness, and everlasting bliss. The temporary joy is more connected to our senses, and that is changeable. If you don't change, you will cause unhappiness and disappointment. So, the joy of the joy is less joy than the sorrow of that joy. And that is limited to Ānandamaya Kośa. Ānandamaya kośa is the causal body. The causal body is in Sanskrit kāraṇa śarīra also. Kāraṇa śarīra. Causal means cause, the cause of death. And that is a body of desires. Your feelings are from that body. Kāma, Krodha, Mada, Lobha, Moha, and Ahaṅkāra are all warriors of the Ānandamaya Kośa. If you break through, then you come to the bliss, divine bliss. If you overcome them and break through, then you achieve divine bliss. "I am bliss, I am bliss, I am supreme bliss." Then you realize, my real being is Chidānanda, chit and ānanda, everlasting bliss, that eternal consciousness. Śivo'haṁ, that I am Śiva, not that physical form of Śiva, but Śiva is eternal, universal. Śiva means consciousness, Śiva means liberation, Śiva means beauty, Śiva means joy, Śiva means happiness, Śiva means light. But that's why the Śakti, the Kuṇḍalinī, that individual consciousness, is always longing to merge into the cosmic consciousness. The union of Śakti and Śiva or Śiva and Śakti. Here, Śiva is the consciousness and Śakti is the matter. That solid, dormant, immense energy, but dormant. Or prakṛti and puruṣa, nature and consciousness, so this individual consciousness, the individual self, merges into the eternal one. It is possible; it's not a fairy tale. But, my dear, that needs discipline, and that needs practice. Nothing is given to us without anything. So sac-cid-ānanda, sac-cit-ānanda, if something, then it is satya. So Brahman is, therefore Brahman is satya, and this changeable world is mithyā. This beautiful hall, which cost millions or billions of dollars, and one day you will be surprised, it will be pulled down. That's it. So if there is something, that is satya, something. Yes, that eternal, everlasting sat. So in India, there is one spiritual group or religion called the Sikh religion. They have very divine instructions in the Gurū Granth Sāhib. For them, the Gurū Granth Sāhib is the embodiment of their Master. "Gurū Granth Ko Jāniye, Paragardh Gurū Aṅkī," they believe that Gurū Vākya, the book of the Gurudeva, is the embodiment of the Gurudeva. They believe that Gurū Vākya, this is their book, the Holy Scriptures, is the embodiment of Gurudeva. In their heart, where this truth and love is, devotion, they will find this Gurudeva inside; they will see Gurudeva inside. And they greet, "Sat Savikār," which means we accept the truth, the reality, that truth, satya. In Christianity, it is said, "Thou shalt not lie," which is actually the principle of their yama and niyama, which was given before 2,600 years. Those are not killed; "Ahiṃsā Paramo Dharma" was spoken in Mahābhārata time, nearly 7,000 years ago. First time by Pitāmaha Bhīṣma, then the great incarnation in Jainas, Mahāvīra. Then in the Testament, it is emphasized very strictly, "Thou shalt not kill." And Mahātmā Gandhi dedicated his whole life for satya, truth, Satyāgraha, and ahiṃsā, non-violence. So the entire world is connected, and therefore sattva citta is pure. Something which has a joy, it must have a joy inside. Ānanda, bliss, so it's truth, living, and bliss. And that is in everyone. This kind of thinking or consciousness is very important for spiritual development, or sustainable development, to create the harmony and peace, understanding in the world, non-violence, no discrimination, no humiliation. Who respects this? So the yogīs should come to this point again. So you are fortunate ones, that you are on this path with your free decision to decide this and realize this Self-realization of the Divine. Recording location: Slovenia, Kranj, Weekend seminar
