Rainwater harvesting program and the neem

A spiritual discourse on the neem tree's divine properties and practical applications.

"Someone writes that sustainable development is possible through neem. In India, we say 'Nīm Nārāyaṇa'—Nārāyaṇa is God Viṣṇu."

"Consuming a quarter teaspoon of neem leaf powder daily protects against viruses and seasonal flu. It helps build strong immunity in the body."

A speaker details the extensive health and purification benefits of the neem tree, connecting it to divine principle (Nīm Nārāyaṇa). He provides specific instructions for internal use as a tea or powder for immunity and blood sugar, and for external use in skin care, hair washing, wound healing, and even household cleaning. The talk links the use of neem to supporting the ashram's water catchment projects.

We are working extensively on water catchment. Year by year, the rainfall is diminishing, and the groundwater level is receding deeper and deeper. We have many projects addressing this. One water harvesting project is about 95% complete, and we will see its results today. Now we must also undertake the Kailāsh Āshram water harvesting project. Every āshram is developing. Similarly, I am considering implementing water catchment programs not only for our āshram but also for surrounding villages, so that rainwater percolates into the earth rather than merely remaining on the surface to dry up. There is an internet article about a tree called neem. You can read extensively about neem online. Someone writes that sustainable development is possible through neem. In India, we say "Nīm Nārāyaṇa"—Nārāyaṇa is God Viṣṇu. Neem possesses thousands of beneficial properties. It grows in India like a wild tree, even in Rājasthān's hot, dry climate. At Jadan Āshram, a pollution-free zone, there are over a thousand neem trees. We harvest these neem leaves and dry them in the shade, not in the sun, as direct sunlight causes them to lose some of their essence. While drying, we must also shape the branches to keep them safe so they do not break in strong winds. This year, we harvested neem leaves, made a powder, and sent it to Europe. Consuming a quarter teaspoon of neem leaf powder daily protects against viruses and seasonal flu. It helps build strong immunity in the body, reducing susceptibility to allergies. In the morning, you can make a tea from it. Use just a little powder—about a pinch between two fingers—for two or three cups of water, as it is bitter. You can also add it to your regular coffee or tea; it resembles bitter chocolate. For external use, soak two teaspoons (or one tablespoon) of neem leaves in one liter of water overnight. The next morning, instead of soap, use a little of this water to rub on your body after an oil massage, then bathe or shower. You will notice how pleasant your skin feels and the fresh scent it leaves. For a wound that does not heal, apply neem powder directly to see its miraculous effect. If you accidentally cut yourself, apply the powder with cotton to stop the bleeding. For soft, shining hair, use the overnight neem-soaked water to wash your hair. It will leave your hair clean, soft, and beautiful. For a bath, add three to five tablespoons of neem leaf powder to a bathtub and soak; you will feel wonderful. Neem is said to purify the blood. Taking it daily can help with issues like pimples. For oral health, massage your gums daily for half a minute with a little neem powder. This is guaranteed to help heal periodontal issues and eliminate bad breath; drinking neem tea two or three times will purify and resolve these problems. For those concerned about slightly high sugar levels, neem can help lower them, acting almost like insulin. However, it can also affect blood pressure variably—it may raise low blood pressure and, in some cases, lower high blood pressure. Its effects are individual. It is very bitter, so be cautious with dosage. To enjoy the tea, let it cool to about 40-45 degrees Celsius, then add one tablespoon of honey and a little lemon. You will thank me for this recipe. It makes an excellent gift for friends. In Europe, it is available in capsule form, with a recommended dosage of one to three capsules daily. But we offer purity. Neem can also improve eyesight. Clean your eyes by placing a little neem powder in a glass of water; in the morning, use the upper portion of the water in an eyecup to cleanse your eyes. You will feel refreshed all day. Neem purifies and disinfects the body, eliminating parasites or bacteria in the intestines and digestive system. For household use, instead of chemical toilet cleaners, put one teaspoon of neem powder in the toilet. You will see how clean and naturally fresh it smells, without any chemicals. For skincare, you can make a mask from this fine powder. Mix it with water to form a paste, apply it to your skin, leave it for one to four hours while you go about your work, then wash it off. I promise your husband will not recognize you—you might resemble a green frog initially, but after washing, your skin will be lovely. For skin issues like pimples or allergies, apply the paste, take a sunbath or stay in a warm room, then clean it off; it promotes rapid healing. After washing their hair, most Indian ladies apply a little neem oil to the scalp, which contributes to their nice, long hair. This brings to mind Gurujī's slogan: "One in all, all in one." That is why it is called Nīm Nārāyaṇa. By using this, you also support our water projects. Thank you. When you come to Jadan, you can have it gratis—eat the leaves, drink the tea, everything is free.
