mantra OM SRI GURU DIPAYA NAMAH

An explanation of the mantra "Oṃ Śrī Gurū Dīpāya Namaḥ" and its spiritual significance.

"Oṃ is the cosmic sound; Oṃ is the origin of the universe. Everything is created from Oṃ, the sound."

"Gurū is the consciousness which leads us from darkness to light. Guh is the darkness, and Ruh is the light."

A teacher provides a detailed, syllable-by-syllable commentary on the mantra. He describes Oṃ as the primordial sound of creation, Śrī as prosperity and Lakṣmī, and Gurū as the eternal principle guiding one from ignorance to knowledge. He explains Dīpāya as the light of consciousness and Namaḥ as salutation, culminating in the mantra's overall plea for wisdom and liberation. The session concludes with a guided recitation in Vajrāsana.

Oṃ is the cosmic sound; Oṃ is the origin of the universe. Everything is created from Oṃ, the sound. Everything exists within the sound, and everything will merge back into the sound. This means the creator, the protector, and the liberator are all within Oṃ. Oṃ is the original sound of the universe. The form of the supreme is sound; that sound or resonance is in every atom, in every element, and in our body. Each and every cell of the body is filled with that sound, that resonance. Every blade of grass is filled with that resonance, that sound Oṃ. Oṃ is the creator; everything is created by that sound. The sound is only one, and that is the divine resonance. It depends on how you produce that sound, through which instrument. The human mouth produces sound differently, animals differently, birds differently, and every instrument produces sound differently, but that sound is the sound. Śrī is wealth, Śrī is happiness, and Śrī is good luck. Śrī is Lakṣmī, and Hari is Viṣṇu. Oṃ is Viṣṇu, and Śrī is Lakṣmī. And Gurū is Viṣṇu; therefore, Śrī means wealth, prosperity, or good luck. Gurū is the consciousness which leads us from darkness to light. Guh is the darkness, and Ruh is the light. The principle which leads us from darkness to light is Gurū. The Gurū Tattva is also eternal, as old as the sound itself. Oṃ Śrī Gurū. Dīp is that light: the light of consciousness, the light of life, the light of wisdom, the light of happiness, the light of love, the light of the universe, the light of our consciousness, and the light of our soul. So, the Gurū Tattva is Ādhyanādhi, eternal; it is that which leads us from darkness to light—the darkness of ignorance to the light of knowledge. Namaḥ: my salutation, my adoration, my prayers, my request, my humbleness. It means: my adoration to thee, O cosmic light; lead me from the darkness of ignorance to the light of knowledge, so that I may realize that I am the same resonance of the universe which has created everything. Bless me with happiness and prosperity. You are the Oṃ; let me become your Oṃ. This is the meaning of this mantra. Before practicing Khatu Praṇām, you should recite this mantra, which will give you happiness, prosperity, and wisdom, and free you from suffering. All negative qualities will disappear, and positive qualities will appear. So, in Vajrāsana: Oṃ Śrī Gurū Dīpāya Namaḥ, Oṃ Śrī Gurū Dīpāya Namaḥ, Oṃ Śrī Gurū Dīpāya Namaḥ. Oṃ Śāntiḥ Śāntiḥ Śāntiḥ. Oṃ Śāntiḥ Śāntiḥ Śāntiḥ. --- Recording location: Czech Republic, Strilky, Summer seminar
