Bhakta and Bhagawan

A spiritual discourse on the inseparable unity between the devotee and God.

"Without Rādhā, Kṛṣṇa is half. Where God is, the devotees are."

"He checked about twenty-five doors, and in every room Kṛṣṇa was there performing different actions."

Swami Ji explains the divine union symbolized by Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa through etymological wordplay and a parable. He narrates a story where a seeker discovers Kṛṣṇa personally present in every devotee's home, illustrating God's omnipresence for the faithful. The talk contrasts this with the loneliness of a jealous mindset, concluding with an exhortation for harmony, relaxation, and recognizing the divine connection in all relationships.

First, you said Rādhā, and then you said Kṛṣṇa: Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa. If you take the "R" out of Rādhā, it becomes "Ādhā," and "ādhā" means half. So, without Rādhā, Kṛṣṇa is half. Where God is, the devotees are. Where there are no devotees, God is so lonely and He does not feel comfortable. He asks Himself, "What am I doing here? Why am I here? Why did I manifest this?" But when the bhakta, the devotee, is here, then He is happy and He makes His līlā. That is called Līlādhārī; then He plays His divine plays. Therefore, the bhakta and Bhagavān are both the same. It is difficult to understand them, and He is with all devotees. There is a story. Someone asked, "How is it possible that Kṛṣṇa can be with everyone?" They told him, "Ask the gopīs." So the man went door to door. He knocked on one door to ask the gopī if Kṛṣṇa was with her. She opened the door, and Kṛṣṇa was there drinking milk (in those days there was no chai). He did not need to ask; it was clear. Immediately he knocked on the next door, and Kṛṣṇa was there putting His shawl over His body. He thought, "Perhaps these rooms have connecting doors." So he quickly knocked on another door, and there was Kṛṣṇa sitting and repeating, "Brahmā, Brahmā, Brahmā." Again he went quickly, downstairs to another floor, knocked there, and Kṛṣṇa was playing the flute. He checked about twenty-five doors, and in every room Kṛṣṇa was there performing different actions. He came back and said, "Now I believe. I already believe that God is with everyone; no one is without God." God is never alone; all the bhaktas are with Him. In that is harmony, and in that is unity. However, one gopī was jealous. She also had apartments nearby. Someone knocked on her door while she was sitting on her bed like this. She thought Kṛṣṇa was coming, but He was not there. The visitor asked, "Where is Kṛṣṇa?" She replied, "He doesn't like me, maybe. For twenty days I have not seen His face, but He is next door. Don't tell me this; I don't want to listen to it." So, if you have such a vṛtti, such a mental tendency, then you are lonely and you are torturing yourself. Therefore, we are all one—all beautiful brothers and sisters, all beautiful devotees. Some are your sisters, some are your mother, some are your wife, some are your husband, father, or brother—somehow. Future husband, future wife, be happy and relaxed. Have no tension. Those who have tension go very quickly into pension—it means you are retired from everything. So, enjoy and understand the Rakṣā Bandhan. Recording location: Czech Republic, Strilky, Summer seminar
