Seva and karmayoga

The path requires purification and discipline through selfless service and consistent practice. Seva Karma Yoga purifies the inner faculties—mind, intellect, ego, and consciousness—but only when performed without ambition or conditions. Many struggle because these inner faculties are impure and discipline is lacking. You have endured suffering across many lives and forms, but now possess a human life and consciousness; you must utilize this opportunity. Time does not wait, and realization must be accomplished through your own physical, mental, emotional, and social conduct. Do not compare yourself to others; your sole concern must be your own realization. Purify your inner faculties and never abandon your practice. Āsanas and prāṇāyāma are as vital as meditation and mantra for health and concentration. Neglecting physical exercise breeds laziness, which leads to neglecting spiritual practice, which then invites negative influences and company. Your development is in your hands.

"O mind, you lost everything with the kuṣaṅgīs."

"Seva must be performed without any ambition. If there are ambitions or conditions, your action is not accepted as true service but merely as a self-interested duty."

Hari Om. It is wonderful to be here again; I was looking forward to seeing you, and by the blessing of Mahāprabhujī, it has come true. You have many blessings from India. We had beautiful satsaṅgs, especially in memory of our beloved Holy Gurujī, and from Jadan Āshram and all the bhaktas there engaged in Seva. They remember you and send you much love. Seva Karma Yoga purifies our antaḥkaraṇa. Antaḥkaraṇa refers to our inner faculties: mind (manas), intellect (buddhi), ego (ahaṁkāra), and consciousness (citta). When these are balanced and pure, spiritual development flourishes. Seva must be performed without any ambition. If there are ambitions or conditions, your action is not accepted as true service but merely as a self-interested duty. It is said your yogic path will only be successful if you perform the right karma. Many of you are trying very hard yet are not successful because your antaḥkaraṇa is not pure. Many have lost their discipline, and many do not practice it. Had you practiced discipline, you would today possess a different level of consciousness. But to maintain discipline requires discipline itself, and that discipline means inner clarity. Without an inner longing, you will not succeed. For many, many lives we have suffered. We have all endured immense pain and many disappointments. We have passed through both happy and unhappy situations. This has occurred not only in human life but in other forms of existence as well. Be assured that you have taken on different forms of life. But now you have a human body and human consciousness; therefore, you should utilize this opportunity. Time waits for no one, and nothing will be granted to you. You must accomplish it yourself. You have to gain this through your behavior: your physical, mental, emotional, and social conduct. Otherwise, it is a great pity that this human life will pass again without attaining realization. Once more, it will be the same cycle. Once more, the same sufferings. Therefore, do not compare anything with anything. It does not matter who is who or what is doing what; that is not your concern. Your duty and your concern should be your own realization. Purify your antaḥkaraṇa—this is very important. And never give up your practice. Āsanas are as important as meditation. Prāṇāyāma is as important as your mantra, for āsanas and prāṇāyāmas keep your body and mind healthy and concentrated. As soon as you neglect your physical exercises, laziness will arise. The next consequence will be that you begin to neglect your spiritual sādhanā. And when you neglect your spiritual sādhanā, kuṣaṅga (bad company or negative influences) will come. You will then gravitate more toward kuṣaṅgas, and that means you have lost. As Mahāprabhujī said, "O mind, you lost everything with the kuṣaṅgīs." Thus, your life, your development, and your achievement are in your own hands. Time will not wait for you. Many karma yogīs are performing Seva in Jadan and await your coming to do Śiva [pūjā or practice] there. You can also do Śiva here. So, you have blessings from there.
