Demonstration of relaxation

A guided relaxation session introducing Ānandāsana, the bliss posture.

"Your body is now recharging its energy—the life force, vitality, the prāṇa, the cosmic energy."

"This kind of relaxation will give you immense energy. It will calm your emotions—negative emotions, aggressivity, anger, hate."

Swami Maheshwarananda guides a live demonstration and practice of Ānandāsana, explaining its benefits for recharging prāṇa and releasing fatigue. He leads the audience through a detailed body scan and breath-awareness meditation, promoting deep physical and mental relaxation, and concludes with a wish for universal health and happiness before gently guiding practitioners to reactivate their bodies.

I would like to offer a demonstration here, which you can also see and practice at home; it is very simple. Any yoga teacher, if you would like to come forward, please do. These are teachers from Yoga in Daily Life. They are tired; please lie down on your back, with your head centered. Would anyone like to come and join? If you are tired, you are welcome. What is good about Yoga in Daily Life? It is very comfortable, very pleasant, and beautiful. This posture is called Ānandāsana. Ānanda means bliss; this posture is so beautiful, so good. Every one of us likes this, whether we are old or young, healthy or ill. Finally, you say, "Thanks to God." Why do you do this? Your body is now recharging its energy—the life force, vitality, the prāṇa, the cosmic energy. As soon as you give rest to your organs, muscles, nerves, and joints, the cosmic energy begins to flow. The result is that it pushes all the tiredness and negative energy out. And finally, we have to adopt this posture at the end of our life. If you don't do it yourself, they will put you in this position; they will help you into what we call eternal peace. But I personally pray and wish you a happy, healthy, harmonious, peaceful, long life. When you come home from work, instead of drinking coffee or something similar, you can relax. You can also do it now; lean on your chair like this and place your hands as you like. If you like to close your eyes, do so; if you don't, then don't. It is your choice. If you close your eyes, you will be able to relax more. If you don't close your eyes, you will be able to see more here in this hall. So it is your choice. But since nothing new will appear, it is better to close your eyes and mentally follow my instructions. Take three deep breaths, inhaling and exhaling slowly. Inhale. Exhale. Now relax the breath. Relax the breath and withdraw from the outer world. Perceive your whole body from the tips of your toes to the crown of your head, and from the top of the head to the toes. No tensions at all. Relax your legs, your arms. Relax your hands and fingers; relax your neck and shoulders, and your stomach muscles. Relax your face muscles, your lips, and your eyeballs, eyelids, and eyebrow centers. No tensions at all, either physically or mentally. Say to yourself, "Relax, my friend, just relax." Let me be one with myself. Relax. At the time of inhalation, your body is recharging with cosmic energy—the life force, life energy. As you inhale, this energy enters your body, and your body slightly expands, especially the trunk. When you exhale, all kinds of toxins are expelled from the body, and tiredness is recovered. Relax. Be aware of your being here. Feel your body. Feel your breath. Come to your thoughts. Ask your heart, "Do you wish all creatures and humans on this globe a happy life, as you are now happy and relaxed?" I wish everyone good health, freedom, and happiness. Relax. You know that you are inhaling. You know that you are exhaling. You are the center of the universe. Let your radiance, your energy, your light, flow out to the whole world. I am free. I am relaxed. I am comfortable. I am not scared. I thank God for this happy and beautiful life. And I wish this for all. Consciously relax your whole body. Relax. Feel your body. Feel each and every limb. Feel your breath. Relax. Now, slowly begin to breathe deeply in and out. At the time of inhalation, feel the expansion of the body, and at the time of exhalation, feel the contraction of the body, and become extroverted. Once again, take a deep inhale and exhale, then move your fingers, close your fists, and open your palms. Close your fists and rotate your wrists. Stretch your hands. Stretch your shoulders up and down. Bring your palms together and rub them. Place your palms on your face. Under your palms, open your eyes and your hands, then move your hands and stop. This kind of relaxation will give you immense energy. It will calm your emotions—negative emotions, aggressivity, anger, hate. All that you collect all day, it will help you release in just a few minutes. Recording location: Czech Republic, Zlin, Summer seminar
