Nada yoga is related to mantra yoga

A spiritual discourse on the power of divine names and mantra practice.

"It is said, 'Rām Se Baḍā Hai Rām Kā Nām.' The name of Rāma is greater than Rāma himself."

"That mantra purifies the physical level, energy level, mental level, intellectual level, and then the spiritual level."

The speaker explains the profound significance of names and mantras in sādhana, describing them as vessels of divine energy and identity. He discusses the principle that a name is greater than the entity it represents, the importance of realizing one's spiritual name, and how mantra repetition leads to purification across all levels of being, culminating in the success of Nāḍīyoga.

Recording location: Hungary, Vep, Weekend seminar

Many of you remember last Sunday and Monday evening when we spoke about a yogic kriyā, and where we have to continue this. I told you that in Vāpe we will continue with Nāḍīyoga. Nāḍīyoga is a very powerful sādhana. When the Nāḍīyoga sādhana begins, you will realize that your mantra has become successful. Why do we practice mantra? There are two reasons. First, it is either the name of God or something of positive energy. The name of God is positive. The name of God is beautiful, and therefore your mantra is beautiful. Second, it is the resonance of that mantra which leads your inner consciousness in the right direction. It is said, "Rām Se Baḍā Hai Rām Kā Nām." The name of Rāma is greater than Rāma himself. Greater than that embodiment, that name is bigger. Like the position of a president is not that physical person only, but that chair, the chair of the president, has a power. And so, "Rām Se Baḍā Hai Rām Kā Nām" is the powerful name of God, greater than God himself. It is the name which gives you information. It is the name which makes the difference. The name gives you identity. When you are waiting somewhere—in a hospital or doctor's waiting room, at the airport, or anywhere—and someone calls your name, you immediately respond. So your name means everything. When we say Rāma, we immediately remember God Rāma. When we say Jesus, the picture of Jesus comes before us. When we say Hanumānjī, Jesus's picture doesn't come; Hanumānjī's comes. When we say Kṛṣṇa, then Kṛṣṇa's picture comes. Similarly, when you call your father, your father's picture comes. So every name carries the quality, energy, and entire identity of that person. That is why we always give a name which has some spiritual, divine, powerful, positive meaning. When you receive a spiritual name, it carries a meaning, and it means you have to realize that you must become like that name. We gave the name Śānti, but she is very restless. Where the name is Śānti, there should be ever Śānti, no? Or we gave the name Śāntoṣa, and she is very greedy, not happy at all. We gave the name Gaṅgā, but it is like hot fountain water, no? Not Gaṅgā water. We gave the name Puṣpā, and it is like a thorn, no? We gave the name Viveka, but it is stupid. It cannot be like that. We gave the name Lakṣmī, and she has not even the money to buy bread. Her name is Lakṣmī, but no money. So you have to realize your name, my dear. Every culture, every religion, every tradition has beautiful names. You should know the meaning of your name and then develop the quality according to it. It must not be that you get only an Indian spiritual name. Spirituality is in the whole world. That's it. But when you have that name, you should be aware of it. There is somewhere at least a written list: "These people are not wanted." You go and see your name inside. How unhappy you are. And then you go and see that your name is not there. You say, "Oh, thanks to God, my name is not there." However, you are attached to your name. Your name has become a rope in your nose to pull you here and there, like a camel. You know, a camel has a rope in its nostril, and it pulls you. That rope is your name. "Dīn bandhu dīnānāth, merī ḍorī tere hāth." Oh, Lord of the meek, oh saviour of all, my Lord, the rope of my life is in your hand. Please, Lord, sometime move it closer to you. Therefore, Nāḍīyoga is connected to Mantra Yoga. When the mantra becomes successful, purification takes place in your mind. This means purification physically, spiritually, and socially. At that time, three things become very strong: the resonance, the sound, the light, and energy. The light means wisdom, knowledge. The resonance of divine cosmic sound and energy means that governing power within you, that protecting power within you, will protect you and always lead you to a beautiful, good, harmonious, happy place. And therefore, a mantra is given. That mantra purifies the physical level, energy level, mental level, intellectual level, and then the spiritual level. According to your belief, your faith, your God, you should repeat the name of God. That is a mantra, or something positive. Or if you want to do this, you can do it: "Dīp Nirañjan Śabadukha Bhañjan. Dīp Nirañjan Śabadukha Bhañjan. Nīma Śedhyave To Darśan Pāve. Nīma Śedhyave To Darśan Pāve. Devī Devatā Kare Nita Vandana. Devī Devatā Kare Nita Vandana. Śrī Dīpanī." Those who will meditate and repeat, disciplined and regularly, will have a divine darśan of God or their ātmā. You will see all the divine souls in the universe, or what they call the goddess, or whatever you call. They will greet you and say, "Hello, how great you are," if every day you chant.
