Knowledge of Immortality Part II
Yoga is the divine science leading to immortality through understanding the Guru's word. This understanding encompasses all sacred teachings from sages and scriptures. Persist in contemplating these words until they are realized within. The path requires unwavering alertness, for the mind is restless and easily distracted by hope and thirst for worldly illusions. Withdraw the senses from external distractions to achieve concentration. The story illustrates this: Lord Śiva imparts the science of immortality to Pārvatī, who falls asleep in ignorance. A newly hatched parrot attentively receives the teaching instead. This parrot later becomes the sage Śukadeva, who must seek a true master to reclaim that knowledge. He learns from King Janaka, who remains conscious of imminent death amidst worldly splendor. True understanding demands constant awareness, not sleep.
"Never give up. Let it become one with you. Follow those principles which are given by the great sages."
"Be alert, be conscious, be aware, and listen carefully."
