The Sequence of Worship and Meditation on the Deities

The sequence of worship and meditation on deities is a path to wholeness in a fragmented land. Power, newness, unity, and the land itself are scattered. Meditation begins with Gaurī Gaṇeśa, offering akṣata and prāṇa. Direct deities Sūrya and Agni manifest in the lamp. Bhairava in Kṣetrapāla receives obeisance. Kuvera, Nandi, Keśvara, and Nāga Devatās are meditated upon with unbroken rice and flowers. Śiva receives abhiṣeka with water, honey, sugar, and jaggery. Bilva leaves are offered to Śiva, destroying sins. The eleven names of Bhagavān receive akṣata. Fragrant offerings and adornments complete the worship. The Jyoti Liṅgas are recited for liberation. Consciousness is the foundation of practice. The ārtī is performed with mantras. Forgiveness is sought for any imperfections. All worship honors Bhagavān Sadāśiva.

"The bilva leaf is the offering to Śiva; when worshiped with an unbroken bilva leaf, all sins are purified."

"By this, may the foremost success always be mine. I bow to the venerable Śrī Sāma, always auspicious Śivā."

Part 1: The Sequence of Worship and Meditation on the Deities We will take water from you and perform the vinayoga. There is Puṣpitya and others. Take Puṣpitya from yourself. What have you taken just now? You have to meditate: Gaurī Gaṇeśa jī ki immā gurgu asvaḥ hareśaṁ vikābbhyān namaḥ. I offer the akṣata and prāṇa to the one meditated upon. Namastro mī parī Gaṇeśa jī ke ūpar chahā denā hai. Or, in front of Bholē Vāvā, one should take kunāphir, akṣata, and flowers, and meditate on the direct deities, Sūrya Bhagavān and Agni Devatā, meaning the deities manifested in the lamp. Amṛtam Amṛtam Chahiranya Yena Savita Ratena Devo Jati Bhuvana Niprishana pūrvāsvā pratyakṣa devatā soryāyanamā dhyānam dhyānārte akṣatān tuṣpānī samarpayāmi namaskaromi. Once again, take akṣata and puṣpa and meditate on Bhairava Devatā residing in Kṣetrapāla. You must offer obeisance to all the devatās present in that place. Vishṇu Vishṇu... we have to transcend Vishṇu Vishṇu... we have to transcend Om Vishṇu Vishṇu... Om Vishṇu Vena Mahā Om Vishṇu Vena Mahā... Om Vishṇu Vishṇu... And the sky, called Sumbasre, the radiant sun shining from the north, the well-formed, the showering, the strong; likewise, the supreme north, and so on, called Bava; the northern children called Soga; the name of yoga, the supreme auspicious name of yoga; the name of the guru, Bhadrapādara. The name of that district is Śrilkī, in the country called the Czech Republic. In the district called Śrilkī, in an auspicious place near Bhagavat, one must take their name and gotra name. With auspicious names and auspicious gotra, one must say Pannūham: "Mama ātmanaḥ Shruti, Shruti,..." Shruti says: In all the worlds, through the royal door alone, one attains victory and gains the fruits of their efforts. To cross this cycle of births and deaths, to achieve all desires and purposes, to be wise and knowledgeable, to accomplish the aims of human endeavor, in the birth horoscope and the ascendant horoscope, the position of the planet Mars should not be inauspicious. We will meditate on Gaurī Gaṇeśa here, and from this point, our sequence of worship will proceed. You have to offer your salutations to them and seek permission to worship. Then, taking unbroken rice and flowers, you will meditate. Taking unbroken rice and flowers, you have to meditate on Kuvera. You have to meditate on Akṣata, Puṣpa, Nandi, and Keśvara Ji... You have to meditate on Nākh Devatā Vāsvakī Ji: Pumma namo susarpevyo je ke caprat vimanu je natarikṣaya je divi tevya sarpevyo namo namaḥ bhurvā sukhī nāgāya namaḥ. For the purpose of meditation, I offer unbroken flowers. I bow down. What is bilva leaf? Alright, you have to practice Akṣaproṣṭa and meditate on Śiva. First, we will perform pūjā, then uttara pūjā, and we will offer abhiṣeka to Bhagavān four times with water. We will perform pādya, argha, ācamana, and snāna. Bhūra bosvā, bhaktē sāma sadā, śivāya namahā. I offer the feet, the feet, the feet; I surrender the immovable body; I offer all the rules and regulations. May the water purify and sanctify; may the water reveal the divine. In the forest, the water flows; in the land of Paisvatī, all beings are content. I offer salutations to Bhagavān, to Sāma, to Sadāśiva. I offer water for washing; from that water, I bathe in pure water. From the bath in pure water, I take the water of āchamanīyam. With that water, I invoke prāṇa. Thus, I purify, purify... After the bath, pure water should be offered to the devotees with reverence, just as one would offer to Sadāśiva. New devotees will bathe with honey, sugar, and jaggery, offering the sweet juices. The sun, the saints, and the devotees, all absorbed in meditation, offer these sweet juices. I offer the pillar of nectar, accepting this water. I offer what is dear to Sindrā and what is dear to you, seeking your blessings. Amma Bakute Saamma Sadāśi Vāyu Namaḥ, Sakrāya S Pitā Madhumā Nob Vanaspatirmadhumā Astu, Sūryā Mādhvīrgāvo Bhavantunaḥ Bhagavadeśāma Sadāśivāyi Namaḥ. I offer the fresh bath; at the end of the bath, I again purify with kenshan. After the pure water bath, I offer the cleansing water. You are the Gandharva, you are the Akhara, you are Indra, you are Irāsvāti. O liberated one, O king, I bow to Bhagavān Śiva always. By whose waters shall I bathe? By whose waters shall I bathe again? One must bathe with pure water and with the fifteen mantras of Rudra Sūpta. The abhiṣeka has to be performed, then after preparing the offerings, the abhiṣeka will be done again. Make sure this vessel is not impure; after bathing with pure water, perform the abhiṣeka. Āmi kuṅgirśanta haste bhivartyasta veśyavāṁ girudra tānkuru māhi guṅga sīhī puradhana jagat śive navaca sāttā giruśāchā vadāma se jatānā hāsaru ami jagala ekṣma guṅga sumanā asat adhyavo caddhī vṛttā pṛthamo... adhisṇa adhisṇa... O Lord with a thousand eyes, grant us the strength to overcome the obstacles before us. Like the bowstring released by the archer, may we be propelled forward with unwavering focus. O Śiva, who dwells in the faces of the arrows, we bow to You. Bless us with long life and vitality, so that we may not falter in our vision or purpose. May our minds be steadfast and disciplined, and may we cultivate great humility and self-control. Control your anger, restrain your pride, and subdue your ego. O beloved ones, how many are the minds that exist? The mind is the life itself. We offer our complete worship to Bhagavān, always auspicious. By placing a finger before you, we will offer water to Baba. Our entire worship is almost complete, O Bhagavān. Whoever applies the tilak and then performs the full abhiṣeka—after applying the tilak, the entire abhiṣeka will be done. After applying the tilak and tying a small thread, the pūr pūjan of Bhagavān is complete. Then, the full abhiṣeka will be performed again. If the vessel for the tilak is small, it can be arranged from the pūrṣaka, alright? Either the pañcamadhyā or something like that can be done. O King of the country, I know you are a little worried. Taking a small amount of akṣata and with the feeling of a billapatra leaf, we will offer the billapatra to Bhagavān: tridaraṃ triguṇākāraṃ triṇetraṃ catrayāudhaṃ trijannapāpasaṃgāraṃ. The billapatra is an offering to Śiva, always to Bhagavate Śivāya. With great devotion, I offer akṣatāṃ and dharmaprayāṇi with obeisance. Make a small silver plate, take a little akṣata, and offer it to the eleven names of Bhagavān. Hold it in your left hand and offer it little by little with your right hand, saying: Om Kapardinai Namaha Akṣatan Samar Payāmi, Om Bhairagai Namaha Akṣatan Samar Payāmi, Om Shūla Panayai... Salutations, I offer unbroken reverence; Om Iśanāyai Namaha, I offer unbroken reverence; Om Maheśvarāyai Namaha, I offer unbroken reverence; Om Omayāyai Namaha, I offer unbroken reverence; Om Śaṅkarāpyai Namaha, I offer unbroken reverence; Om Parvakyāyai Namaha, I offer unbroken reverence; Om Gauriyāyai Namaha, I offer unbroken reverence. I offer the unbroken Samar, Om Kaliyai Namaha. I offer the unbroken Samar, Om Kotariyai Namaha. I offer the unbroken Samar, Om Vishvadhāriṇī Namaha. I offer the unbroken Samar, Om Harān Namaha. I offer the unbroken Samar, Om Harīn Namaha. I offer the unbroken Samar, Om Gaṅgā Devagī Namaha. They said, "We have to give the staff to Baba, we have to give the staff to Baba." Bor Boswa Bhagavate Sāma Sidāśi Vāī Nama Sar Vibhyo Devi Vibhyo Namo Nama Sar Vābyo Devi Vibhyo Namo Nama Sar. Now, I offer these five fragrant half-flowers and unbroken blossoms. Bow down. These blossomed garlands and all these things, after holding them firmly, now place them with devotion. We have about forty minutes left according to the time; complete the viśeka and ārtī, and the śiṅgāra as well. Please arrange everything accordingly, and after that, we will still perform the niyoga, and then after the abhiṣeka, immediately do the khurudaya karasparsa. The forest is the companion of the moon, the companion of the stars, the divine path of the ancestors. The mind is steady and wise, seeking the meaning without confusion. The awakened one does not speak of evil from afar; that is the divine truth. There, knowledge dwells, and the mind is aware; there, knowledge dwells, and the mind is aware... Wherever there is knowledge, wherever there is consciousness, wherever there is the ancient and the eternal, may my mind be established in that auspicious Shiva consciousness. Hariḥ Om, with the essence of the three states, with the power of the three worlds, with the protection of the three energies, with the support of the earth, the water, the fire, the air, and the ether, purified and radiant in all directions, O Śāṅgulammā, may you protect and bless all beings, may you uphold the Vedas and the sacred knowledge, and may you grant supreme grace. The essence of the lion’s pride is like the river Jadanvī, surpassing the brilliance of the sun, the glorious one. I remain absorbed in that; from it, I receive everything. It is the refuge of the universe—of mountains, animals, the weary, the poor, the humble, Narayan, Narayana, Ram, and the ministers. From it, I receive everything. It is the support of all generations, the mark of the noble, the victorious, the born, the self-existent, the unconquered. Babuha, Jniret, Tasmad, Tasmad, Jata, Ajabaya, Tandri, Rambar, Ekipra, Ukshan, Purukhan, Jatam, Gura, Taha—these gods came together with the sages. When the man was strong, when the mouth was firm, what was the purpose? What of the arms, what of the legs? They rose up like the rays of the sun. The arms were like the king’s, the face was radiant. In that battle, the wise were born undefeated. The shining sun sets, the pure one is born, the thread is unbroken, the two curses are removed, the giver of happiness is born, the unspoken is present, the distant one is the divine Śaṅkṛi, the gods are established, the two worlds are upheld, the gods uphold the dharmas, the destroyer of enemies does not kill, the three cities are protected, the gods are present, the wise ones are awakened. The one who controls all actions in the universe, who is pleased and manifests in various forms, is known as Tanmārka, the supreme deity. Before all knowledge and creation, the gods arose from him. Salutations to that Brahman, the source of all light and the progenitor of the gods. From him, the gods were born; salutations to that Brahman who is the origin of all wisdom. I bow to the revered neck, the direct witness; those who suffer in this world, they are the elders and the wise. The body has become weak, the bones have become fragile, and the mind is restless. The days pass by in sorrow, and the nights are filled with tears. Where is the remedy? Where is the refuge? O Mukashivona Tumanabhava, I bow to you. I bow to Ayodhaya, the giver of refuge, the destroyer of enemies, the protector. May that one protect us, may that one bless us, may that one remove all doubts and difficulties, may that one grant peace and prosperity in all the five directions, may that one grant peace and prosperity in all the five directions, the ultimate reality. Part 2: The Fragmented Land and the Path to Wholeness In a fragmented land, power is fragmented; in a fragmented land, newness is fragmented; in a fragmented land, unity is fragmented; in a fragmented land, the best is fragmented; in a fragmented land, the land itself is fragmented, giving and taking are scattered... Salutations to Balā, salutations to Prapramathanā, salutations to the subduer of all beings. Salutations to the horses, O deity Savitar, dispel the afflictions with your arrows; swiftly grant peace. Peace to the earth, peace to the forests, peace to the waters, peace to the mountains, peace to the plants, peace to the animals, peace to the gods, peace to Brahmā. O you who are... The field of consciousness is vast and boundless; it is the foundation of all practice and the path to liberation. Observe the dawn of knowledge with devotion, for it leads to the pure essence of existence. Bow to Śiva, the eternal, who is beyond all impurities. Through sincere practice and dedication, one attains purity and mastery over the cycles of birth and death. The one who seats and lifts the deity, like in Śrīṅgāsana and so on, will take the amgava, then directly after pure water, apply hiruttīlā and other such things along with it, adorning it. I will explain: when there is nothing else, then the pramba kanja goes, enhancing fragrance, nourishing the body, binding the senses, and ultimately leading to liberation, granting immortality. The fragrant essence of the primordial source pervades all; it is the bond that ties the fertile earth. Liberate me from the cycle of birth and death, O immortal one. Now, O Swāmīndra, Lord of Lords, I invoke you. O Moon King, dispel the darkness; O divine one, awaken the eyes of wisdom. Abandon ignorance and falsehood; awaken the eightfold consciousness and the knowledge of the self. To the one who understands the mind, who is devoted to Hari Bhagavān, always I bow to Bhagavān, always to Sadāśiva. Beyond all pleasures, beyond all external rites, beyond all disputes and pride, the one who pervades the universe with prāṇa, the one who is the essence of all beings, the one who sustains the cosmos, I offer my salutations to Bhagavān, always to Sadāśiva. With countless supreme forms, I offer my obeisance to Bhagavān, always to Sadāśiva. O Jānyā Mahākāra, Oṃkāra, Mamaleśvaraṃ, Paralyāma Vaidyanā, Thamchā Rākhinyām, Dhīmyashaṃkaraṃ, Setu Bandhetu, Rāmeśaṃ, Nāgeśaṃ, Dāru Kāwane, Vārāna Syāma, To Viśveśaṃ, Tyambakaṃ, Gotamī Tate Nimalaye, Tukhe Dāraṃ, Guṣmeśaṃ, Caśivalaye—these are the Jyoti Liṅgāni. One should recite them seven times every morning without fail. The sin committed in seven births is destroyed by remembrance; O Bhagavān, in the assembly of the gods, the great twelve Jyoti liṅgas are remembered. The threefold, three-guna form, the three-jangha, the wielder of the bow, the destroyer of the threefold sins—I shall perform the Śiva pūjā with bilva leaves. The bilva leaf is the offering to Śiva; when worshiped with an unbroken bilva leaf, all sins are purified at Nandi Keśvara. The bilva leaf is the offering to Śiva. In the village of Śāli, on the stone, the desire for enjoyment never fades; the great merit of Soma is bestowed. The bilva leaf is offered to Śiva as a gift. Millions and thousands of Vājapeya and Śatāni sacrifices, and millions of daughters as great gifts, are given. The bilva leaf is offered to Śiva as a gift. Lakṣmī arose and sat, displeased with Bahādeva; I offer the bilva leaf to the bilva tree. Śivarpaṇam darśanam, touching the bilva tree is the destroyer of sins. In the aghora path, the burden of sins is removed. Offering bilva leaves is an offering to Śiva. In the idol, there is the form of Brahma; in front, the form of Viṣṇu; below, the form of Viṣṇu; in front, the form of Śiva. Offering bilva leaves is an offering to Śiva. The merit of reciting the Bilvāṣṭakam is auspicious for those who worship Śiva. In the presence of the one who is completely free from all sins, offering the bilva leaf to Śiva, we will once again perform the nyāsa. The preparations have been completed. Victory to Bhagavān Śiva, the Lord of the Śaṁsada dynasty. Salutations to Pārvatīpati, Har Har Mahādev. The divine adornment has taken place. Please release this water of Bhagavān, and kindly show mercy upon it. Om, the mind is illumined by the sacred fire, as per the command of Bṛhaspati. May the gods grant us the strength to endure the thirst of contemplation and meditation. May they protect us and guide us always. Salutations to the bearer of the back, Om. Offering reverence to the firewood that kindles the fire, I bow to the one who shines forth. With the mouth, I praise; with the breath, I invoke. The face is all-pervading, the face is all-encompassing, the face is all-encompassing. The arms are all-encompassing, all-encompassing, the self is all-encompassing. The self is the source of all movement. We offer ourselves to the earth, the mother of all beings. We are one with her. We are nourished by the self, and the self is the support of the mind. Accept these as measures of life, accept them as the cow, accept them as the sheikh, accept them as the rail; accept the waves of the Gaṅgā, the beautiful locks of hair, the white, continuously illuminated village part, dear to Nārāyaṇa, the beloved naked one, the mountain of intoxication, from Vārāṇasī to the east, worshipping Bhagavān; I offer flowers for the sake of meditation to the Lord of meditation, and I bow down. The entire list of offerings to Bhagavān has been completed, the adornment has been done—incense, lamp, naivedya. If there is a tradition of waving the incense, then that is fine. Please show the lamp to Bhagavān. If there is anything in the naivedya, please show it to Bhagavān. Śrī Śrī... We offer the sacred oblation to the divine fire; we bow to Sadāśiva, the supreme Lord. Salutations to all the deities, the divine beings. I offer my obeisance with the ring finger of my right hand. While touching and offering, may the fragrance please the senses and purify the mind. I bow to Sadāśiva, the great doer, and offer this fragrant oblation with reverence. Adorn Bhagavān with flowers; is the ārtī thāla ready? Yes, everyone is ready. Will the mantra practitioners begin? Yes, Brahmā is our own, or it is our cheek. Yes, that is fine, that will also do. Jai! First, offer flowers and bow to the deities for health, bow to the Ātman for self-welfare, bow to the deities for self-upliftment. Taking flowers, offer them as puṣpāñjali. Today, we remember and bow to those deva-s who, in the beginning, established dharma. Their greatness remains in the heavens, as it was before. The accomplished ones, the sādhya-s, those deva-s—let us bow to them. May that tooth-born one illuminate us. We meditate on the great god, Mahādeva. May that night-rider illuminate us... Take one or two flowers and have everyone offer them, then give them to someone, and they will offer those flowers again. Meanwhile, we will perform the next process, taking the flowers to pray for forgiveness from Bhagavān. If the letter or syllable is incomplete or deficient in measure, then everything is considered imperfect. O Deva, be pleased, O Parameśvara Bhagavān, always auspicious. I offer my salutations and prayers with full reverence. I bow down, holding water in my hand, and the worship we have performed is all to honor Bhagavān. It is said, by this one, may success be achieved; by that one, may success be attained. Always, by me, whatever auspicious worship of Śiva is performed, all that is dear at the lotus feet of Śiva. I bow with folded hands. By this, may the foremost success always be mine. I bow to the venerable Śrī Sāma, always auspicious Śivā. Salutations to Bhagavān. We will offer our respects. With the desire of the eyes, releasing water, we do so. Victory to the peaceful Bhagavān! Victory to Umāpati Mahādeva! Victory to all saints, victory to all devotees; Rāmapṭavatī reveals, dispelling all sorrows.
