Distressed by her mortality, she begs for the secret of immortality. Śiva agrees but insists on strict conditions to prevent universal disruption. He renounces his companions, finds a secluded cave, and creates a ring of fire to ensure secrecy. As he teaches Pārvatī, she must stay awake and affirm each point. She falls asleep, but a parrot chick from a surviving egg listens and responds, receiving the immortal wisdom instead. Satsaṅg is the glory and the means to self-realization. All wisdom and spiritual development come from being with truth. Bad company is plentiful. Some, like a bitter pumpkin in holy water or a stone in the ocean, do not change; inner bitterness remains unless the heart finds its divine refuge. Satsaṅg is that boat to cross the ocean of ignorance. Human life is rare, and satsaṅg in this age is rarer still. Divine bliss is found there. Love functions in relationship, like between a devotee and the Divine. Satisfaction is needed; then bliss begins. Vairāgya, Jñāna, Tyāga, and Bhakti must be in balance. Desire is the great disease. Satsaṅg transforms, as ordinary wood near sandalwood becomes fragrant or dirty water merging in the Gaṅgā becomes holy. The blessed get this opportunity. Svara Yoga balances breath for consciousness and liberation. The moon and sun nostrils govern emotion and intellect, mirroring lunar phases influencing nature and action. Human life has lost its natural rhythm with these cycles. Yogic consciousness remains awake even in sleep, known as Yoga Nidra. This practice widens awareness to perceive future events like illness or death by observing prana. The Ida and Pingala nadis alternate flow approximately every 45 minutes. Sleep position directs this flow: sleeping on the left side activates the right, solar nadi at night. Upon waking, the active nadi should align with the lunar fortnight—solar in the dark phase, lunar in the bright. Physical methods, like pressing the opposite armpit, can change the active nostril. The ultimate aim is to guide prana through the central Sushumna nadi to the crown chakra, the door to liberation. This merger of energy with consciousness is the essence of Kundalini and Tantra. Śaṅkarācārya incarnated to restore the non-dual truth of Sanātana Dharma. Long ago, non-dualism was suppressed and dualism spread, obscuring the eternal principles. Śaṅkarācārya taught there is only one universal Ātmā—the one moon reflecting in every lake. Duality and fear exist only through ignorance, like mistaking a rope for a snake. When knowledge dawns, the oneness is seen. He revived the principle of seeing Brahman in everything. He established monastic centers and reformed rules, allowing sincere renunciation at any age. True devotion is singular surrender to the divine. Many practice devotion, but the true devotee is one who sees the object of devotion as God and surrenders completely. When the Guru, the source of all, is with you, what more is there to wish for? To have the Guru belong to you is to have everything. Do not waver in confidence. If you feel separation, trouble arises. Devotion is a fragile thread; once broken, it cannot be fully rejoined. There is devotion with desire and devotion without desire. Teachers must practice what they teach. Many who call themselves teachers are out of practice, while beginners are in better condition. Teachers who only instruct without demonstrating become unfit. Students observe a teacher's condition; if it is poor, they leave. People need strict, hard work to feel compelled to return. Bhastrikā prāṇāyāma warms the body, cleans the respiratory system, and expands lung capacity. It strengthens the diaphragm and improves immunity. Life depends on breath; its cessation brings immense fear. Value each breath and use time wisely, for it will not return. The heart serves constantly; care for it and keep it strong through practice. We practice the three bandhas together as Mahābandha. Bandha means to block or tighten, creating opposition to develop strength and energy, like pressure clearing a blocked drain. Contracting the anus muscle in Mūlabandha creates a pleasant sensation ascending the spine, pulling energy toward the head. This strengthens muscles controlling apāna, aiding issues like hemorrhoids, incontinence, and prostate health. It also improves intestinal circulation and digestion. For deeper practice, sustaining this sensation can lead to meditation and boost immunity. Uḍḍīyāna Bandha means to fly, pulling up the diaphragm and intestines to activate digestive fire and rest the heart. Jālandhara Bandha, combined with specific āsanas and mudrās, supports thyroid health and releases neck tension. These practices are both physically therapeutic and energetically awakening. Sādhanā is a lifelong path requiring unwavering confidence, for we work not for this transient life but for eternal divine consciousness. This life's events are temporary; we must analyze them, seeing hardships as guidance and pleasures as potential obstacles. Most are concentrated on material achievements, which are impermanent like bubbles on water. Nothing here is truly ours; it is given for use in self-realization. The greatest obstacle is losing motivation. Practice without expectation, for even after decades one may perceive no result, yet that steadfastness itself is the progress. Self-realization is not something one feels; to claim it is to lose it. Like a diamond unaware of its nature, one simply is. Therefore, never give up. An ant persistently carrying a grain of rice teaches this. Many things in life are both support and obstacle. One must decide the direction of consciousness and understand the difference between self-respect and ego. Proper dress and conduct show respect for society, whereas using appearance to attract attention creates spiritual obstacles. Modern commodification of the person, especially of women, leads to a dark future, undermining dignity and spiritual life. Relationships can also become traps if a partner demands abandonment of practice. Make your resolve with great belief for a positive aim. The Guru's grace is the supreme power that accomplishes the impossible. A doctor recounts a complex eye surgery where uncontrollable bleeding threatened the patient's sight. Remembering his Guru in prayer, he blindly inserted an instrument and the bleeding stopped miraculously, an act he attributes solely to divine grace. On another occasion, his car ran out of petrol far from home. After his family urged him to remember his Guru, the car started and drove the remaining distance, a blessing for safe passage. The Guru removes darkness. There is no substitute for the Guru's power; one must never test it but offer complete surrender and respect. Time's nature and our reality are examined through the lens of consciousness and dream. Time binds us, yet its existence is questionable. Our prime duty is to use it well. We possess intellect (buddhi) to judge reality (satya) from non-reality (asatya). What changes is non-reality; the unchanging is truth. The core practice is developing viveka (discrimination) to separate them. The final judgment is "Brahman is truth, the world is mithyā (appearance)." Our world could be a dream. Dreams are often past impressions or unfulfilled desires stored in the subconscious, arising as vāsanās. The mind transports these between subconscious and conscious; it is not responsible for your problems but can be directed. Memory can be a friend or enemy based on what it recalls. Desires repressed by intellect return in dreams or actions. Mastering dream consciousness involves observing transitions between waking, dreaming, and deep sleep, and learning to re-enter dreams after physical activity. This leads to understanding the three states and the fourth (turīya). Ultimately, neither waking nor dream life is ultimately real; only the witnessing Self is real, sat-cit-ānanda. The greatest obstacle is spiritual blindness, which manifests even in sacred spaces. If it was not, then by not forgiving you only create new karma and ensure your own constant suffering. The event itself is not terrible; suffering comes from a lack of understanding and an inflexible heart. You are not forced to suffer; you choose to by holding on. If the rope of willpower breaks near the top, all progress is lost. Negative thinking rots this rope. Doubt is a bacterium that can kill mighty motivation. Life has problems and noise, like a water pump; to have water, you must accept the noise. Problems are the school of life and will never be fully solved. Therefore, you must find time for sādhanā. When love is lost, everything is lost. Water your practice with love, care, and wisdom, as a dry plant revives with water, light, and fertilizer.
